📝 Job Description
MECON Limited, the Ranchi-based PSU under the Ministry of Steel, just opened applications for 159 contractual posts spread across engineering, safety, quality, planning and contracts roles — and almost all of them are built around real site experience, not fresh-graduate hiring. If you've spent the last several years on a steel plant, mining or EPC project site, this recruitment is actually designed for you.
The spread of posts is wide. There's everything from Additional Engineer roles in civil, structural, mechanical, mining and quality — each needing 10 years of hands-on industry experience — down to Junior Engineer posts in electrical and environmental engineering that ask for just 1 to 2 years. In between sit Deputy and Assistant Engineer positions covering instrumentation, refractory, safety (HSE), environmental clearances, piping design, material handling and HVAC design. A Deputy Executive (Contracts) role is also on offer for people with a tendering and billing background rather than a pure technical one.
Pay is consolidated and tied to the post — ranging roughly from Rs.41,190 for junior safety roles up to Rs.78,390 for the senior HSE Engineer post — plus site allowance, metro allowance, medical coverage, accommodation or HRA, and leave benefits. Contracts run 1 to 5 years depending on the post, starting with a 1-year appointment that gets renewed based on performance.
Here's something worth catching before you apply: MECON is strict about what counts as "experience." Freelance work, entrepreneurial stints, internships, articleship, and even academic project or teaching experience are explicitly excluded — only full-time, regular-salary employment counts toward the years required. If your experience certificate doesn't clearly show the dates of joining and relieving along with the actual nature of work, that period simply won't be counted, and it can cost you eligibility even if you technically have the years.
Eligibility and experience are checked as on 25 September 2026, and the upper age limit — mostly capped at 50 across posts — follows the same cutoff. There's no written exam here; selection is purely through a Personal Interview, so document readiness matters more than exam prep. UR/OBC/EWS candidates pay a Rs.500 application fee; SC/ST, PwD, Ex-servicemen and internal candidates are exempt.
Postings are spread across Rajasthan, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, so check the place-of-posting table against your post code before applying — some roles come with more than one possible location.
Applications opened on 3 October 2026 and close on 17 October 2026, so there isn't a long runway here. Get your documents — degree certificates, mark sheets, experience letters, Aadhaar, PAN — scanned and ready well before the deadline, because MECON doesn't allow any corrections once the online form is submitted.

पदांची रेंज बरीच मोठी आहे. सिव्हिल, स्ट्रक्चरल, मेकॅनिकल, मायनिंग आणि क्वालिटी या विभागांत Additional Engineer पदं आहेत, ज्यासाठी किमान 10 वर्षांचा प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव लागतो. दुसरीकडे इलेक्ट्रिकल आणि पर्यावरण अभियांत्रिकीमध्ये Junior Engineer पदांसाठी फक्त 1 ते 2 वर्षांचा अनुभव पुरेसा आहे. मध्यभागी Deputy आणि Assistant Engineer पदं आहेत — इन्स्ट्रुमेंटेशन, रिफ्रॅक्टरी, सेफ्टी (HSE), पर्यावरण मंजुरी, पायपिंग डिझाईन, मटेरियल हँडलिंग, HVAC डिझाईन अशा वेगवेगळ्या क्षेत्रांत. टेंडरिंग आणि बिलिंगचा अनुभव असणाऱ्यांसाठी Deputy Executive (Contracts) हे पदही आहे — हे पूर्णपणे तांत्रिक पद नाही.
पगार पदानुसार ठरलेला असून, कनिष्ठ सेफ्टी पदांसाठी अंदाजे रु.41,190 पासून सुरू होऊन वरिष्ठ HSE Engineer पदासाठी रु.78,390 पर्यंत जातो. यासोबत साइट अलाउन्स, मेट्रो अलाउन्स, वैद्यकीय सुविधा, निवास किंवा HRA आणि रजा सुविधाही मिळतात. कंत्राटाचा कालावधी पदानुसार 1 ते 5 वर्षांचा असतो, सुरुवातीला 1 वर्षासाठी नियुक्ती होते आणि कामगिरीनुसार पुढे वाढवली जाते.
अर्ज करण्यापूर्वी एक गोष्ट लक्षात ठेवा — मेकॉन 'अनुभव' कशाला मानतं याबाबत बरंच कडक आहे. फ्रीलान्स काम, स्वतःचा व्यवसाय, इंटर्नशिप, आर्टिकलशिप आणि अगदी शैक्षणिक प्रोजेक्ट किंवा शिकवण्याचा अनुभवही गृहीत धरला जात नाही — फक्त पूर्णवेळ, नियमित पगारावरचा अनुभवच मोजला जातो. तुमच्या अनुभव प्रमाणपत्रात जॉइनिंग/रिलिव्हिंगची तारीख आणि कामाचं स्वरूप स्पष्ट नसेल, तर तो कालावधी गणलाच जाणार नाही — आणि प्रत्यक्षात अनुभव असूनही अर्ज बाद होऊ शकतो.
पात्रता आणि अनुभव 25 सप्टेंबर 2026 रोजी तपासले जातील, आणि बहुतांश पदांसाठी कमाल वयोमर्यादा 50 वर्षं हीच आहे. इथे कोणतीही लेखी परीक्षा नाही — निवड फक्त वैयक्तिक मुलाखतीद्वारे होते, त्यामुळे अभ्यासापेक्षा कागदपत्रांची तयारी जास्त महत्त्वाची आहे. UR/OBC/EWS उमेदवारांना रु.500 अर्ज शुल्क भरावं लागतं; SC/ST, PwD, माजी सैनिक आणि अंतर्गत उमेदवारांना सूट आहे.
नोकरीची ठिकाणं राजस्थान, झारखंड, पश्चिम बंगाल, ओडिशा, छत्तीसगड, कर्नाटक आणि महाराष्ट्रात पसरलेली आहेत, त्यामुळे अर्ज करण्यापूर्वी तुमच्या पद क्रमांकासमोरचं ठिकाण नक्की तपासा — काही पदांसाठी एकापेक्षा जास्त ठिकाणं दिलेली आहेत.
अर्ज प्रक्रिया 3 ऑक्टोबर 2026 रोजी सुरू झाली असून 17 ऑक्टोबर 2026 रोजी बंद होईल — त्यामुळे वेळ फार नाही. पदवी प्रमाणपत्रं, मार्कशीट, अनुभव प्रमाणपत्रं, आधार, पॅन कार्ड आधीच स्कॅन करून तयार ठेवा, कारण ऑनलाईन फॉर्म सबमिट केल्यानंतर मेकॉन कोणतीही दुरुस्ती करू देत नाही.
